Restoring Elegance: A Journey Through the Renovation of a Historic Forest Park Home- The Dining Room & Library
As we continue our journey through the renovation of Steve's historic Forest Park home, the latest updates bring us to the dining room, sunroom, and library—spaces that have been carefully restored and enhanced to honor the home's Georgian roots while embracing a renewed sense of elegance.
Dining Room: A Return to Classic Elegance
The formal dining room, a space that speaks to the grandeur of the past, has undergone subtle yet impactful changes that make a world of difference. Steve focused on restoring its classic charm, beginning with the addition of wood wall panels below the windows. These panels, paired with chair rail molding, offer a refined touch that enhances the room’s architectural integrity.
Interior shutters now frame the windows, adding a layer of sophistication while paying homage to traditional design. But perhaps the most striking feature is the swinging door with a porthole window—a nod to the home's history, now beautifully reinstated after a prior owner’s removal. This small yet significant detail brings back a bit of the home's original character, bridging the past with the present.
The dining room’s floors were unfortunately compromised by termite damage, necessitating their removal. In their place, new hardwood floors were installed, carefully chosen to blend seamlessly with the existing style. To complete the transformation, a plaster ceiling medallion was added—an elegant feature commonly found in Georgian homes, now gracing this space with a timeless sense of refinement.

Sunrooms and Library: A Light-Filled Transformation
Flanking the formal living and dining rooms are two sunrooms—spaces that have always been bathed in natural light but lacked the character and purpose they now possess. Steve’s vision was to create distinct yet harmonious spaces that would serve both functional and aesthetic purposes.
One of the sunrooms has been transformed into a library, a sanctuary of knowledge and relaxation. Custom bookcases now line the walls, providing ample space for Steve’s collection of books and artifacts. The original crown molding remains a proud feature, reminding us of the home’s storied past, while traditional wood panel interior shutters have been added, offering a touch of classic elegance that ties the room together.
The second sunroom, still a work in progress, remains a bright and airy space, awaiting its own moment of transformation. With its natural light and potential, it stands as a blank canvas, ready to be shaped into whatever purpose Steve envisions next.

Looking Ahead
As we walk through these beautifully restored spaces, it’s clear that Steve’s dedication to preserving the historic charm of his Forest Park home is unwavering. Each room tells a story—a blend of past and present, where every detail has been thoughtfully considered.
In the next part of our renovation journey, we’ll explore further updates and delve into the ongoing transformation of this remarkable home. Stay tuned as we continue to witness the return of elegance to this historic gem in the heart of Forest Park.
